An Evening at the Observatory

On October 3, I secured tickets to the Observatory’s open house night and went stargazing with friends on a crisp early fall evening.

The night began with a presentation on the scientific search for life beyond Earth, grounding the experience in both curiosity and rigor. From there, we moved outside to the observatory’s red room, where we took turns viewing the moon through one of the smaller telescopes, its surface sharp and unexpectedly close against the cold night air.

The highlight came later, inside the main observatory. Looking through the large telescope, we saw Saturn and its rings clearly suspended in space, a sight that felt both distant and immediate at the same time. The chill lingered, but no one seemed eager to rush the moment.

It was one of those evenings that quietly recalibrates perspective. Standing under the night sky, wrapped in layers, reminded me how grounding it can be to look far beyond ourselves and return with a renewed sense of scale, curiosity, and awe.
