Between Oxford and London
Over Spring Break 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to join a small group from UVA's International Residential College on a week-long journey through Oxford and London as part of the INST-2500 seminar with Professors Phoebe Crisman and Michael Petrus.

Wandering through medieval quadrangles one day and under ultramodern towers the next, I witnessed firsthand how architecture both captures a place's history and continuously evolves with its people.
In Oxford, the centuries-old colleges and ornate libraries revealed how heritage can be preserved while still shaping fresh perspectives. In London, the coexistence of grand historic landmarks and bold contemporary structures highlighted the city's layered history, and I witnessed firsthand how these influence the way we live, work, and interact. London's built environment tells a story of continuous evolution, reminding me that architecture is far more than bricks and mortar; rather, it is a living narrative shaped by time, culture, and innovation.
Returning to UVA, I'm more convinced than ever that design decisions go far beyond aesthetics. They spark dialogue, foster community, and challenge us to envision vibrant, forward-looking urban landscapes. I'm excited to integrate these insights into my studies in architecture, motivated by the idea that our built environments are living reflections of who we are—and who we aspire to become.
