Running the 4Y5K on Family Weekend
Family Weekend kicked off early for me this year with the 4Y5K, a race that felt equal parts tradition, community, and personal challenge.

On November 8th, I ran the course with a chip time of 27:10.28 averaging an 8:45 pace and finishing 184th out of 1,477 runners. It was one of those mornings where the energy of Grounds carries you forward, surrounded by students, families, and familiar faces all moving together through campus.
Shortly after crossing the finish line, I ran into President Jim Ryan, an unexpected but fitting moment for a weekend centered on connection and shared experience. We exchanged a few words before heading off in opposite directions, both part of the larger rhythm of the day.
The race set the tone for Family Weekend: busy, joyful, and grounded in the kind of traditions that make UVA feel alive well beyond the classroom.
